Maine law enforcement officials are gearing up for their annual push for Maine’s seat belt laws.
Beginning Monday, 45 police agencies in the state are taking part in the 2-week Click It or Ticket campaign as the summer driving season gets underway.
Special enforcement efforts are planned for the first day of the campaign from 4 to 8 p.m. Thomas Reagan with the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety says motorists should expect to see lots of police officers taking part in “Border to Border” details Monday along the Maine-New Hampshire border.
“We’re also putting heavy emphasis on Route 1 from Brunswick to Rockland, Route 2 from the New Hampshire border all the way into Pittsfield and Route 3 from Augusta over to Belfast,” he says. “We’re talking about seatbelt enforcement, passengers, front seat, back seat, child safety seats. We want everybody buckled up, especially this holiday season, so we’re trying to keep everybody safe.”
The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety has provided more than $313,000 to the Maine police agencies involved with Click It or Ticket to pay overtime for the 2-week effort.
